Daniel Colcombe is the founder of Bee Clean, a successful carpet and upholstery
cleaning company. On December 1, 2003 documents were filled with the Pennsylvania
Department of State Corporation Bureau. The business serves Westmoreland, Allegheny
and Indiana counties from its location at 8304 State Route 22, New Alexandria, PA
15670.
Dan knew he had a good thing when after contemplating on a business name, saying
name after name out loud for about a month to his wife Erin, one day he said “Bee
Clean”, and his wife gave him a big smile, that’s when he knew he got it right.
Dan and his wife Erin have been married for over 16 years and have 3 wonderful children.
The business was started out of their home but quickly grew and required more space
for office, employees, equipment, vans and product.
The path that led to Bee Clean wasn’t always easy. After completing 2 ½ years at
Saint Vincent College in Latrobe, PA where Dan studied business management and met
his wife, he went into a carpet cleaning business with a childhood friend. Although
the effort and memories were incredible, the business just didn’t have staying power.
Dan was able to transition his efforts into a new construction custom painting business
that was very rewarding and enjoyable, but was very demanding and difficult for
a family schedule. Considering his most important rule as husband and father, he
made the difficult decision to let that go and focus on a more family friendly business
offering pre finished millwork to general contractors and home improvement stores.
As a result of his involvement in this industry he became a consultant to a large
millwork company and participated in the initiation of a very successful pre finishing
program for a millwork firm which is still ongoing and enjoying much success today.
When the project was completed and all key components were in place Dan was able
to go back to his roots, carpet cleaning. Not only was carpet cleaning Dan’s first
endeavor in the business word, but his father had also had a cleaning business and
as a very young child would get the chance ever so often to go with his Dad to work
and carry ½ full buckets of water and get to go to Elbys’ Big Boy for a bear Claw
pastry afterwards. You could say cleaning is in Dan’s blood.
Realizing that success in business requires more than just good fortune and hard
work, Dan spent months putting together a business plan, reviewing all available
equipment and developing a game plan for becoming the leader in a competitive industry.
It was then he found the I.I.C.R.C. (Institute of Inspection, cleaning, restoration,
certification) which would give him a huge competitive advantage from an educational
and practical aspect of his new business. Dan began implementing his business plan,
acquiring the best equipment, best products, best training possible and the rest
is history.
